Successful Thanksgiving

Before we share all the exciting details about our first annual Thanksgiving dinner, we at Daily Bread in Abundance would like to thank everyone that came out to help! Without each of our volunteers dedicating their time, we know we would not have had quite the smooth holiday that we did have. It was a beautiful thing to see so many locals come together to be a part of something bigger than themselves!

Thanksgiving was a success because it was a TEAM EFFORT!

We were prepared to feed about 600 people that day. We are happy to report that we left the facility with no leftovers! Not only did we serve over 200 people in person, but our crew worked hard to get well over 300 to-go meals packaged and delivered!

A father brought his two sons in, willingly. They all wanted to help, and they impressed us all. Our doors were open for four hours, and these young gentlemen stayed on the serving line the entire time. Other volunteers asked if they’d like a break several times, and each time they declined. They may not even know it, but they were a special blessing to us all that day!

The 2 young men that worked the serving line without a single complaint!

We had 300 pounds of potatoes to peel and prepare for the dinner. Yes, you read that right; 300 pounds. With the help of two local youth groups, it got knocked out in no time! Before they arrived, we didn’t think we would ever get those potatoes peeled. Then, these young ladies and gentlemen showed up and showed out! They were like a well-oiled machine. The members of DBIA were more than grateful for all of the help on Thanksgiving, but the youth community that came to help touched our hearts more than they’ll ever know. Look at them at work.

A Special Thank you to Shane Shisler Sr.

Daily Bread in Abundance wants to give an extra special thank you to Shane Shisler Sr. Not only did Shane came in from New Mexico to help with the Thanksgiving dinner, but he also prepared all the dressing. There was more than enough dressing for the 600 people that we were prepared to feed. So, as you can imagine, Shane put a lot of time and effort into this part of the feast. He also helped things go smoothly with the other dishes that were being prepared. Here is the man that stayed behind the scenes and helped us tremendously.

We had a little fun, too!

While we were all there on a mission to feed the Andrews, TX community, we also know how to have a good time! The rooms were filled with jokes and laughter. We all took a little time to be silly. After all, we brought our kids along to help, too. It’s good to show the kids that being helpful can be a fun experience. You’ll never catch pictures of the people we help on this website, or any of our platforms. That’s not what its about. However, you will see all the smiling faces that came along for the ride. Check out some more candid moments we caught on camera during the preparation and clean-up of our Thanksgiving dinner.

Once again, the members of Daily Bread in Abundance would like to thank everyone who came out to help make this Thanksgiving dinner a success. We couldn’t have done it without everyone. We are excited for all the future events we are able to put together, and hope our outreach continues to grow.

Have a blessed day!
